Adobe Photoshop introduction and intermediate Photoshop course in Birmingham and Midlands and around the UK.
Adobe Photoshop course covering the basics of image editing and design with Adobe Photoshop, including image resizing, resolution, colour correction, using type and colours, and creating basic designs. Then moving on to Intermediate Photoshop and making more complex cut outs, using Layer Masks, batch processing images with Actions, and looking at various techniques used for montage and design.
Adobe Photoshop courses are available in Birmingham, Solihull and Midlands areas and with trainers around the UK including Yorkshire, Manchester and London areas.

Level: beginners and intermediate.
Software: Photoshop CS4, Photoshop CS3, CS2, CS, or Photoshop 7.
Numbers: One to one or small group of up

Trainees in a group should have the same skill level and the same requirements.

Beginners and intermediate Adobe Photoshop course
requirements
You should have good general computer skills.
Some previous knowledge of design or image editing software would be helpful, but not
essential.

Day 1
Beginners introduction to Adobe Photoshop
Photoshop basics - interface and tools:
Using the tools and changing tool option settings
Using floating palettes: Layers, History, Info, etc
Cropping, Rotating & Colour Modes:
Cropping images to remove unwanted areas
Rotating or Flipping an image
Converting between different colour modes (RGB to CMYK or Grayscale)
Selection Tools:
Using the different selection tools
Making a selection around an object
Moving or copying the selected area to a different position on the image
Selecting an area of an image based on its' colour, and modifying that area
Removing or changing the background of a selected object
Layers:
Working with layers: organising, naming and deleting layers
Combining photographs and text in separate Layers
Modifying the content of a layer, moving layer content, editing or erasing areas
Changing opacity and blending options on layers to get different effects
Add a drop shadow and emboss effects to an item on a layer
Text:
Creating normal text and artistic text, setting text attributes, choosing colours
Applying drop shadow and emboss effects to text
Colour Correction:
Using Levels to adjust brightness/contrast of an image
Adjusting image colours
Creating a sepia tinted image from either a colour or a B&W photo
Filters:
Filters for image enhancement - sharpening and blurring
Creating simple textures and patterns using noise, motion blur and other filters
Colours, Painting & Retouching:
Painting and brush tools: defining a brush size and painting
Choosing a colours
Filling areas with solid colour or gradient
Photo retouching - removing small scratches and spots
Image Resizing & Resolution:
Resizing an image using the image size command, keeping images sharp when
resizing
Discussion of typical sizes and resolutions for different jobs e.g. brochure or, web page
Resizing images to the correct size for the job while maintaining image
quality
Scanning and Digital Cameras: - optional *
Working with images from a digital camera and understanding how camera settings affect image quality.
Scanning photographs, graphics and line art, and understanding scanner settings and scanning resolution.

Day 2
Intermediate Photoshop training
Colour Correction and Colour Adjustment:
Remove a colour
cast and adjust image colours
Adjusting the colours for only part of the image
or for a certain range of colours
Setting areas of an image to pure white or pure black
Creating a faded image to go behind text
Using the colour adjustment tools to create artistic
colour changes
Using Adjustment Layers to adjust layer colours
Selections:
Making complex selections around images areas
Saving selections and editing
selections.
Copying selected image areas to other documents
Layers:
Copying layers to other open documents
Using and editing Layer Masks
Using opacity and layer blending modes to obtain different effects when montaging
Design & Montage:
Importing artwork or graphics into Photoshop from Illustrator
Filling text with a texture or photograph
Fading out an image to solid colour
Creating vignettes and borders around images
Create a photo montage or build a panoramic image from 2 or more photos
Designing a simple web site banner ad or simple poster design
Retouching:
Removing red eye
Retoucing or removing unwanted areas of an image
History Palette:
Using the History Brush to restore parts of an
image after making changes
Channels:
Using the Channels pallette
Editing individual colour channels
Paths:
Creating and editing paths
Creating Clipping Paths
Actions and other time saving features:
Recording a series of steps to be performed on a number of images
Naming, editing, saving, loading and using actions
Batch processing a complete folder of files
Create a contact sheet from a folder
of images
Saving images in the correct colour mode, resolution and file type for either print or web use
The intermediate day can be customised as required. Selected areas from other intermediate Photoshop course outlines may be included if time is available.
You will usually spend some time working with your own photographs and designs.
